Network Oversight

The CPCCRN is directed and overseen by a number of different groups:

Picture of an African American GirlSteering Committee
The Steering Committee has primary responsibility for governance of the Network, the conduct of protocols, and the preparation of publications. The Committee includes principal investigators (PIs) from each participating clinical center, the PI from the Data Coordinating Center, the Steering Committee Chairperson, and the NICHD Project Scientist. The Steering Committee meets at least four times a year, with additional meetings as needed.

Standing Committees and Subcommittees
Standing committees and subcommittees have been established to support the complexity of a multicenter clinical program. These committees include the following:

  • Publications Committee
  • Concurrent Research Committee
  • Prioritization Committee
  • Capitation Committee
  • Protocol Subcommittees
  • Ethical and Regulatory Affairs / Human Subjects Study Group

Advisory Board
The Advisory Board is an external peer review group that advises the Steering Committee on the scientific merit and potential impact of proposed studies. Members of the Advisory Board are not affiliated with the research being conducted by the Network.

Data and Safety Monitoring Board
The Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) has been established to review and interpret data generated from Network studies. Its primary objective is to ensure the safety of study subjects and to provide NICHD with advice on the ethical and safe progression of studies conducted in the Network. The DSMB also advises NICHD on research design issues, data quality and analysis, as well as ethical and human subject aspects of studies.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
The CPCCRN is funded through the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NICHD project scientist (Carol Nicholson, M.D., M.S.) and Program Officer (Michael Weinrich, M.D.) are responsible for the overall administration of the CPCCRN.
